In many African countries, Christmas is just another day. Even though many African countries are generally Christian, Christmas rolls by like any regular day. Because of cultural reasons, nothing is done to celebrate the birth of our Saviour.

This year, at Lifesong Harmony School, we want to do something different. We want our children to understand the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s all part of sharing the Good News.

There are several things we would like to do this Christmas. First, we want to provide our children with a proper Christmas meal, including rice (which is considered a luxury that they rarely get), chicken, beef, fish, potatoes, and maybe even a cake. Second, we would like to put on a Christmas play to help the children understand that Jesus truly is the reason for the season.

In Zambia, it’s very difficult for people to get the most basic needs. A prime example of this is hygiene products. Before the dental team visited in June 2018, our students had never used a toothbrush. Now, we have realized a different need that we’re asking you to help us provide:

  1. Undergarments | Most of the students who attend Harmony School are unable to afford undergarments. The older the students get, the more necessary they become. We would like to provide our students with this very basic need.

  2. Feminine hygiene pads | Because of the cost of menstrual products, it’s very difficult for our students to afford these items. When girls are on their periods, they simply skip school because they have nothing to use. We have found a Zambian organization - Kozo Girls - that makes washable and reusable menstrual pads. Kozo Girls is a Zambian organization that provides employment for Zambian women (scroll to the bottom of the page for more information on Kozo Girls). The fact that they are reusable means that they are better for the environment and more readily accessible for our girls. We would like to begin providing our girls with these Kozo Pads so that we can keep them in school no matter what.

How can you help?

We are running a fundraiser until the end of December this year. Our goal is to raise $2,000 so that we can provide both the boys and girls with these basic needs. $2,000 is just a start - more donations means that we can continually provide our girls with these pads, especially as we get new students and our existing students grow and develop. Christmas Sponsorship Drive

One of our greatest needs at Lifesong Harmony School is sponsorships. Child sponsorships are how we cover the operating expenses of the school and the girls’ home. They pay for the two meals that each child eats, their uniforms, books and school supplies, medical expenses, and wages for Zambian staff. We currently have just over 60% of our children sponsored, but that number will drop as we enroll 60 new pre-school students in January. Because of the great need for sponsorships, we are holding a child sponsorship drive. Our goal is to have 25 new child sponsorships by Christmas Day. If you would like to help us meet that goal, please visit our Child Sponsorship page.
