Meet Grace

Meet Grace*, a student at Lifesong Harmony School.

Grace comes from a family of six; she has three siblings and both her parents are still living. They all live in Musonda Compound, a community not far from Harmony School. Unfortunately, Musonda Compound is a place that experiences much poverty; many houses do not have electricity or running water, and it is rare for children to attend school. Both of Grace’s parents needed to work to support their family, which meant that Grace’s older siblings took care of her in her earliest years of life. We met Grace in 2002 when she interviewed to join the Harmony School. Although she was already attending a community school at that time, it was unable to offer the level of education that Lifesong could.

Grace’s life changed when she came to Lifesong.

At school she was learning English, something she wasn’t learning before. Having this skill alone dramatically increased her opportunities to get a job later in life. At school she was also provided two meals a day, when previously it was common for her to miss lunch regularly due to financial difficulties in her family. More importantly, at school Grace learned about God and His love for her, and she recognizes her need for a Saviour. In Grace’s own words, “I’ve learned Jesus is loving, caring, and He is the only One we can look to.”

Recently, Grace has had to look to Jesus during trying times as her father experienced a severe accident and was in the hospital. Her mother spends most of her time in the hospital with her husband, helping care for him. With both parents not being able to work, money is tight for Grace and her siblings. This makes attending the Harmony School even more valuable for Grace, as she knows she will still have food provided each day and teachers who will support her and take her in when needed, as she has experienced before.

Grace hopes to become a doctor, a dream that would have been unattainable without the help of Lifesong in her education. There are many “Grace’s” near Lifesong Harmony School; children who have big dreams yet few opportunities to achieve them.

With your help, we can reach those children.

Sponsoring a child offers more than the chance to sit in a classroom. At Lifesong, being a learner means:

-       Receiving two meals per day

-       Consistent medical care

-       Hearing the Gospel through daily devotions

-       One-on-one mentorship from teachers and pastors

-       Practical life-skill development opportunities through our vocational technical centre

Because of people like you, we can make a difference.
